3 Processes of Metal Fabrication
01-06-2022

Metal fabrication is a part of our day-to-day lives. The world around us would not be the same without metal fabrication processes. Metal fabrication involves the creation of metal structures from raw materials by means of cutting, bending and assembling. Many sectors are massively dependent on metal fabrication, thus making it an important industry.

Highly trained and skilled professionals are essential for this job as it requires top-level precision. Fabrication shops carry out their jobs based on engineering drawings. Many processes precede the final outcome in metal fabrication. Let's check them out in this blog.

3 Processes of Metal Fabrication

Cutting:

Cutting is the very first step of metal fabrication. It involves sawing, chiselling or shearing off unwanted parts from the raw material. This process is usually done by handheld torches or with the help of CNC machining processes such as laser, torch or water jet. Cutting leaves the technicians with the required amount of metal that needs to be fabricated.

Bending:

The acquired piece of metal is then beaten to the desired shape with the help of manual or powered hammering. Bending can also be done via tube benders and press brakes. Bending is a step that needs to be carried out with maximum accuracy as even the smallest error could lead to a considerable waste of time and resources.

Technicians usually rely on CNC machining to avoid such loss.

Assembling:

Assembling is the third and final process in metal fabrication. The desired parts and pieces are assembled together to form the end product. Assembling can be done by riveting, binding, welding and fastening the pieces together. The final outcome is then presented before the client for approval and shipping.
